RUSSIAN MUSICIAN - ALEX SIPIAGIN (Travelling from New York)
Alex Sipiagin grew up in Russia. He graduated from the Moscow Music Institute and after serving in the military, Sipiagin continued his classical training and music studies at the Gnessin Conservatory in Moscow. In 1990, Alex won first place in a Russian young jazz players’ competition in Rostov City. In 1991 Alex moved to New York. He has been a member of the Gil Evans Band and the Gil Goldstein’s Zebra Coast Orchestra, as well as the George Gruntz Concert Jazz Band.
In 2000, Dave Holland invited him to be a regular member of his big band. As a sideman, Alex has also performed with Eric Clapton, Dr. John and Elvis Costello. His discography includes names such as, Chris Potter, David Binney, David Kikoski, Jeff Tain Watts, Seamus Blake and Craig Taborn.
