Yoga in its full form combines physical postures, breathing exercises, meditation and a distinct philosophy. The word "Yoga" comes from the Sanskrit word “yuj”, which means "yoke” or “union" and it is believed that this describes the union between the mind and the body.
The benefits of Yoga are immense: practice will improve mood and sense of well-being thereby counteracting stress, reducing heart rate and blood pressure, whilst increasing lung capacity. Improving muscle relaxation and body composition, Yoga will also improve overall physical fitness, posture, strength and flexibility.
Vanessa began her Yoga journey in 1997 whilst living in Miami, Florida. It was a friend, Sarah-Jayne, who first showed her a sun salutation and took her to her first Ashtanga Yoga class. After that she was hooked! A few more classes saw improvement in her posture and never previously having natural flexibility, she began to feel more ‘space’ throughout her body and a huge shift in energy levels.
In 2001 Vanessa’s Yoga began to flourish. Moving from Miami to the majestic mountains of Vail, Colorado, Vanessa met Yoga teacher Charry Morris and began to practice Vinyasa Flow Yoga, which combines movement with breath. This soon became a meditation in motion for Vanessa and through practice, she became increasingly more connected to her body, spirit and breathing.
Thirsty for knowledge and keeping an open mind, Vanessa began to study different styles of Yoga and now shares her knowledge and passion for Yoga through teaching.
Her students are encouraged to ‘let go and have fun’ and ‘connect with their inner rhythm and find santosha (contentment) within their own lives, both on and off the mat’.
