The word ‘Yoga’ means to bind or ‘to yoke’. It comes from the Sanskrit
word ‘yuj’ - so in Yoga we bind the spirit and the physical body together.
In the practice of Yoga, our body is linked to the movement of the mind
and the breath to bring about a feeling of balance, harmony and relaxation.
Yoga has evolved over thousands of years to embrace a wide range of
styles and disciplines. There are different schools of Yoga available, from
Hatha Yoga, which is great for beginners - to a more vigorous and athletic
style of Ashtanga Yoga. Bikram, which is consistent poses in a hot room (105
degrees). Iyengar is a focus on structure, using props such as blocks or
straps, and then there is Yin Yoga, a slow class that will take you deeper than
you have ever gone.
So there is a style of Yoga out there to suit each and every individual.
The practice of physical postures (Asana) helps to improve a variety of
ailments, it strengthens and tones muscles and helps develop flexibility.
Various movements in the practice of Yoga help to nourish and cleanse
the remotest parts of the body, helping to release toxins from our body.
Psychologically, Yoga increases concentration, stills the mind and promotes an
overall feeling of tranquillity and contentment.
The teaching of Yoga reminds us of who we aspire to be and what human
beings are truly capable of becoming. Being a working mum teaching Yoga full
time and taking care of my family has taught me to be patient, to have an open
mind, to be kind and have compassion. Because Yoga is a way of life, it is here
to remind of us of our true nature.
Everybody can practice Yoga, from the young to the old, children, people
with minor complaints and various problems, both physical and mental.
When you begin on your Yoga path, your body and mind may feel stiff and
unyielding, but you will walk out of the class feeling much more space in your
body and a quiet mind, a slower and deeper breath, therefore radiating an inner
peace and calmness.
It is best to
practice Yoga on a regular basis, but we can have busy lifestyles and do not
always make the time. Even if you were to practice for one hour a week, you
will experience the benefits of the practice, but of course if you do more than
once a week, you can expect to feel more benefits.
Once you begin your
practice, your body will begin to crave it more and more, even doing just 20
minutes a day is just fine.
Many times people
have asked me if Yoga is a religion. Yoga is not a religion; it is a philosophy
that began in India some 5000 years ago. It is not necessary to surrender your
own religious beliefs to practice Yoga.
Do not worry if you
are not a naturally flexible ‘bendy’ person; your Yoga practice will help you
become more flexible.
As you become more
flexible, you will also be balanced by strength and coordination, enhanced
cardiovascular health and overall well being.
To practice Yoga, you
do not need fancy running shoes or expensive clothes. All you need is a mat,
your mind, your body, a sense of curiosity and a smile.
My name is Vanessa
and I have been teaching Yoga for 10 years and practicing for 15 years. My
passion for Yoga deepens every time I step on my mat.
I began my teaching
training in the USA with Baron Baptiste, in Power Vinyasa Flow and have
also completed my 200-hour Ashtanga Teacher RYS in Rishikesh, India.
My love for Yoga
shows through my teaching.
My classes run at
the Retreat Spa on Fridays 10.30am to 12.00pm.
I am also available
for private Yoga sessions to meet your needs.
With spring fast approaching, the
Annabel Croft Tennis Academy is preparing for the season ahead and getting
ready to welcome some familiar faces back to the courts - and of course meet
some new players as well.
As always, our Academy welcomes
players throughout the week (we operate a 7 days-a-week from 1st March)
with tennis activities for local Juniors and Adults as well as memberships
opportunities to join the Academy. Members enjoy all of the benefits of the Academy
services at substantially reduced rates.
New Head Coach - Scott Wakefield
We are delighted to announce that
the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy has hired a new Head Coach for 2014. Scott
Wakefield will be flying out to Aphrodite Hills Resort and starting as our Head
Tennis Professional from 18th March and will be guiding our players
through the Academy’s programme throughout the year.
Scott hails from Hertfordshire in
the UK and boasts over 20 years of coaching experience at some of the UK’s top
tennis clubs. A former National Junior player and county No.1 player, Scott

the opportunity to become the Head Coach at the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy at
Aphrodite Hills,” Scott states. “The facility and Resort in general are amazing
and there is a good team of Coaches already in place, who I am looking forward
to working with. I also can’t wait to get players on court in the wonderful

first time. It’s a really great method of making tennis enjoyable and
understandable for players of all ages and abilities.”
Scott will be available for
private lessons, groups and any coaching related activities at the Resort and
looks forward to welcoming players for the new season ahead.
DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCES 2013 FIGURES
FOR THE TRANSFER OF TITLE DEEDS AT APHRODITE HILLS RESORT
owner and developer of the luxurious five-star Aphrodite Hills Resort is proud
to announce excellent figures for the issue and transfer of property Title
Deeds throughout 2013, for a large number of properties and plots on the Resort.
Up to 31st
December 2013, Title Deeds for 406 plots and Villas, 21 for properties at Orpheus
Village, 72 for Helios Heights have been issued and transferred to individual
purchasers. 48 Title Deeds for properties at Zephyros Village have already been
issued and transfers are commencing in February 2014. These Deeds relate to
individual plots, individual properties and land parcels.
In cooperation with the
Land Registry, Lanitis Development is working hard to deliver a timely and
smooth transfer of each Title Deed to individual property buyers and owners,
thereby adhering to its contractual obligations. From the outset, the Company
has worked in accordance with planning permits and consistently maintains close
cooperation with all relevant authorities.
For property and land
owners, the possession of Title Deeds increases the commercial value of their
individual properties and plots. Additionally, they also benefit financially
from the Government’s abolition of transfer fees, which is now set in place
until 31st December 2014. Previously, the transfer fees would have
cost the individual buyer up to 8% of the property’s value and were payable
upon the transfer of the Title Deed.
Aphrodite Hills is a
low-density development of luxury Villas, Junior Villas and Apartments situated
in 578 acres of spectacular, unspoilt countryside. Properties offer
breathtaking views over the Mediterranean Sea, forested mountain tops or the
lush green fairways of its own championship-standard 18-hole Golf Course. The Resort
is also home to the five-star InterContinental Aphrodite Hills Resort Hotel, the
award-winning Retreat Spa, a Golf Academy, the Annabel Croft Tennis Academy and
the enchanting Village Square consisting of numerous shops, bars and
will continue to keep all purchasers and owners fully up to date with progress
on the issuing and transferral of their Title Deeds.

Wednesday 29th January 2014 will go down in the history books
of Aphrodite Hills Golf, as the first Members ‘v’ Golf Staff Match Play Challenge
for the Masters Cup. The event was organised by staff member, Stewart McMahon
and the Club Captain, John O’Neill, ably assisted by Tony Raphael.
The forecasted weather for the event was showery, but this could not
dampen both teams’ enthusiasm. The Members carefully selected their team and
due to the popularity of the event, they had to draw straws to select reserves.
Tony Raphael drew a short straw and became marshal for the event; he had a
posse of ‘marshalettes’ in Tina Raphael, Linda O’Neil and Carole O’Dowd, who,
at times also seemed to be cheerleaders for their partners and fellow Members!
The Members team was a closely guarded secret, the envelope was opened and the
teams announced. The following players lined up:
Yiannis Zographakis & Paris Panyides Andrew Darker & Adam Collinson
David O’Dowd & Ray Smith David Hollows &
Yiannis Demetriou & Matt Wake Stewart McMahon & David
John O’Neil & David Morris Robby Robinson &
Christine Smith & Irene Wake Yvonne Preene & Chryso
The tone was set, morale high, expectations slightly lower, abilities to
be proven and a lot of rustiness to be taken from many of our Staff’s golf
The match produced some good golf and overall it was the game of Golf that
was the real winner. The great game was played in good weather, good spirits
and with a great sporting sense. It was followed by the traditional visit to
the 19th for food and beverages, kindly donated by the Director of Golf,
Andrew Darker. The Club Captain, John O’Neil then gave an excellent speech, in
which he had the unenviable task in announcing the match score.
The first winners of the Masters Cup were the Staff, who gained a five-nil
result, in the first game of 2014. We all look forward to the second game later
this year! Many thanks to all who participated, organised, kept the Golf
element open, and to all those who supported such a great day in the history
books of Aphrodite Hills.

The most notable characteristics of churches
such as this are the steep double-pitched timber roofs and the very few openings
in the external walls. Doors are situated in the west and north walls and
usually there are no windows. This type of plan, which probably dates back to

The interior is beautifully decorated with
